According to the latest studies, 9% of men and 12% of women in the U.S. experience at least 1-2 headache episodes per month. Additionally,, more than 4% of the U.S. population suffers from frequent headaches. Headaches can be caused from a variety of reasons. One in particular that I would like to talk about is the migraine. A type of headache that can really ruins a person’s day.
Migraines Are Debilitating
Migraine headaches are extremely painful, and can be a very debilitating for the vast majority who get them. Migraine symptoms include throbbing and pulsing of the head and can often be accompanied by nausea, vomiting and extreme sensitivity to sound and light. Some migraines are proceeded or accompanied by flashes of light, blind spots and tingling in the arms and legs. These headaches can last for extended periods of time.
Relief and Triggers
Some over the counter remedies can provide some relief but most seem to be ineffective. What triggers migraines, is still unknown. Some research shows that certain foods can cause the onset of a migraine. There may also be a genetic component that may predispose you to these types of headaches.
Can a Chiropractor Help?
Chiropractic care has shown to have great success with the treatment of migraine headaches. As with any condition a chiropractor does not treat the symptoms but rather finds the cause of the problem. This can be greatly due to the fact that they focus upon an integrative medicinal approach leading to the vast importance of the chiropractor getting to know their patients’, their history and treatment they have received before. Once the chiropractor has determined what the cause is, treatment becomes a much easier.
